A meticulously realised contemporary residence overlooking Sydney Harbour, where sculptural architecture, exceptional craftsmanship and private wellness unfold across three considered levels.

OVERVIEW

Completed in 2024 and named for architect Walter Barda, Barda House is a contemporary private compound occupying an elevated, north-facing position in Bellevue Hill. Its outlook reaches across Sydney Harbour to the Harbour Bridge and Opera House, while the architecture is designed to feel calm, protected and inwardly private.

The house was developed through an extended planning and construction process, bringing together Walter Barda Design, interiors by Kirsten Bookallil and Stanwix Studios, landscaping by Dangar Barin Smith and award-recognised construction by BAU Group.

Across three lift-connected levels, pale stone, sculptural curves, bronze detailing and carefully controlled natural light establish a restrained material language. The central staircase acts as an architectural focal point, while expansive glazing connects the principal rooms with gardens, terraces and harbour views.

Six bedrooms and five bathrooms support an extended family or private travelling party. The primary suite opens toward the harbour, while entertaining spaces include a highly specified kitchen, butler’s pantry, concealed cool room, wine storage and dedicated cinema.

A mineral-heated pool, architectural cabana, gym and steam room introduce a private wellness dimension without changing the residential character of the house. Barda House is substantial, but its defining quality is precision rather than scale alone.
